This question comes in the wake of the current rise in Atheism throughout western nations. This sudden increase is no doubt in part due to many atheist polemics being published, most notably: The God Delusion by Ricahrd Dawkins and The End of Faith by Sam Harris among others.

The lingering note in these books is the idea that religion (at least those based on faith claims) should be removed from and within this 21st century. This would no doubt cause dramatic changes in the worlds of politics and science, given that the religiously minded are both governing national policy (in most nations) and also holding the leash on many scientific innovations (ie stem cell research).

My question however (which was also posed amongst Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennet and Sam Harris in the recent 4 horsemen interview) is should religion be removed from this world? This question may be answered from any perspective; be it moral, practical or whatever...
