First let me start by stating that by role playing, I mean collectively writing a story. Each player takes on the role of a character, and plays it.. Not necessarily live action, or not necessarily even to be read by other people. I'm thinking here very specifically of text-based role playing games, such as various MUSHes. Players do this for their own entertainment. My question is this: Should role playing be considered an art form? Should the works of these players be taken seriously if, for some reason, they ever want to release it to the public?  Should it be considered an art form in itself? A style of writing? Or perhaps even a form of improvisational 'acting'?
