Recycling in the USA
Why is it that the United States of America has not fully embraced recycling?
Do industry lobbyists have enough of a grip on US policy such that an effective recycling campaign has yet to be implemented?
Do Americans not see recycling as a viable, albeit partial, solution to resource dependence?
It seems that American citizens are not concerned that the vast majority of their products are produced outside of their own country. Having imported all these materials which can be re-used or recycled you would think they would see an opportunity to reduce their dependence and increase the lifespan of their land fills by reducing the amount of material they put in them. Throughout all of my travels I have yet to come across an American city that has an effective system in place to utilize the gluttony of recyclable materials which get deposited into their landfills.
