I disagree with the assertion that "the system" is in trouble. Which system? Democracy? The Republic? Capitalism? The two-party two-step? The tri-part division of governance? Sir Winston Churchill once observed that the best argument against democracy is a five-minute discussion with the average voter. I don't see anything of magnitude that has changed since his day that would invalidate this insightful saw. I certainly am disgusted by the current administration and its supporters, but, as Sir Winston also said, people generally get the government they deserve. Take a bunch of bible-thumping voters to the polls and they will reliably elect any buffoon whom they perceive shares their values. If this is true, then what, exactly, is broken?
