Jesus talked about prayer and fasting in the New Testament. Other books mention it. In my experience in the past 20 years we hear little mentioned about it in our churches. I read about it in books concerning Christian disciplines. Fasting for me is an opportunity to show God we are willing to sacrifice to receive an answer. We don't realize how controlled we are by our habits until we go to break them. This week I challenged my youth group to fast from something all week. I have gone days without food. It fine tunes your walk with Christ. It helps us focus more intently on prayer. You also gain more self discipline. If you cant say no to a piece of food how will you say no to other harmful habits? The best part of the deal is God always honors sacrifice when done for the right reasons. How has fasting impacted you? Is this an overlooked discipline?
