Did the once dominant force of religion fade with science and a more scientific, rationalistic view of the world?

In the West and especially in nothern Europe, most people now have a secular outlook rather than a religious one. This is quite different outside the West and in the poor parts of the world with "pre-scientific" views of things, where religion is not declining.

But still there are a lot of religious people including the clergy, believing that they are part of a dying breed.
