"If peace is equated simply with the absence of war, it can become abject pacifism that turns the world over to the most ruthless." - Henry Kissinger

I consider myself a pacifist, and an idealist.  I despise war and senseless conflict.  Yet, when I hear some beauty pageant contestent, anti-war protester, or even politician tout the virtues of a peaceful world, I typically find myself put off by their seemingly naive world view.  In a world of limited resources, isn't some level of competition, oppression, and neglect inevitable?  I know I'm participating in some sort of oppression just by being a consumer, but how guilty should I feel, if at all?  I want to be soft and compassionate, but I don't want to be overrun and walked all over either... wondering what others think...
