A very wise welder I work with mentioned a concept. he called it "Identity politics"

his belief is that too often we identify ourselves by our political affiliations, our occupations, and our designated role in society rather than by who we are as a person; our aspirations, thoughts and dreams.

it is this "identity politics" that leaves us in a position where we remain loyal to a parties policy even when there policy is destined to fail. we remain "conservative" "liberal" "democrat" "socialist", regardless of the road it takes.

like lemmings lineing up to faithfully step off a cliff, we follow our fearless leader in front without ever questioning whether he knows the path.
