Healthcare expenditure in the US exceeded 2 trillion dollars in 2006 as reported in January of 2008. There are several reasons for this monstrous figure, one of which is that when hospitals expand, they more often than not choose to purchase the most profitable instruments to place in these new buildings...i.e. the instrument that would allow them generate more revenue per patient. Rather than using these strategies to increase profits, why don't we work on maximizing the efficiencies of existing healthcare systems that emphasize eliminating waste in an effort to increase profit? Why doesn't the get more involved at this level?
