China has usurped the United States as the the nation producing the most internet users. Over 180 million Chinese are online compared to the 163 million American users. Unlike the saturated American market, the People's Republic offers a much greater pool of potential users who are not online yet due to computer illiteracy or distance from a web infrastructure.
As with any superpower, addiction and treatment programs are not far behind. Over 4 million Chinese teens send 6 or more hours a day online--the minimum over three months to qualify as addiction according to the country's Internet Addiction Center. Parents are shipping their glossy-eyed charges off to internet reform camps in short order where, after three months of no internet, psychotherapy and a daily routine straight out of the Cultural Revolution, users are cured.
