Nixon, in Real Peace, stated "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." It seems to me that many the problems in the U.S. stem from an irrational valuation of market justice over social justice. The defense industry, healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, petroleum based energy sector and the mortgage industry are all essential to the well being of us all and in that sense are much more like public utilities such as electricity, sewer and water companies. If the profits on these types of companies were capped at 5-15% similarly to public utilities, it would remove the incentive for these companies to do much of the evil that they do in the world. The capital that is currently invested by Wall Street in these companies could then flow into other areas.
