I think that within the next 2 years, the US government should require that at least 50% of every new SUV in the US should be diesel. The newest clean diesel engines along with low sulfur fuel makes diesel ULEV or at least LEV. Also, consumer interest in SUV is more prevalent which doesn't make sense when were trying to limit the amount a greenhouse gasses. By requiring auto makers to make 50% of new SUVs diesel or diesel hybrid it will help decrease demand for less efficient SUVs and also work to reduce greenhouse gasses because diesel engines get more MPG. Also, consumers who want an SUV, may be forced to get a diesel if limited supply of regular models is low. Also, companies could push diesel in areas where it would fit better and really push the higher fuel economy. What do you think?
