Why is "The Environment" only a sub topic here?
The Environment is possibly the biggest topic to discuss, yet it doesn't merit it's own real "topic" listing. This parallels the tone of how environmentalism is recieved by many today. It is most often discussed as "the energy problem" in a debate, or in a 4 paragraph story on the 5th page. But it is our home, our supplier (where do you think the raw materials to make the circut boards we're all using right now came from?), and to just as many as not, it is our mother. Why has the rabid crusading for the earth seen in the 70's diminished today, despite the terrifying collapse of our polar ecosystems and the impending effects on the rest of the world? It takes her true courage to speak the truth of her life when it is so painful, gritty, and frowned upon by others -- some of whom are undeniably dangerous. There are people that are so terrifed by the fact that they agree with her that they lash out at her and want her to quit speaking it. But they -- and she -- need the rest of us to start speaking the truth, too and to show them that there are paths for the future of their beleifs that they just couldn't see before. Thank you for taking the terrifying first step, Aayan.
