The Far Side of the Moon, Pictured by Zond 8

If you don't recognize these scars on the lunar surface - caused by ancient asteroid collisions - that is because the Moon is locked in synchronous rotation, showing only one side to Earth. 

Only astronauts, aliens and orbiting spacecraft are treated to this view. It was captured by the Soviet Union's Zond 8 spacecraft that circled the Moon in October of 1970.
