Mike the Murasai: Fukushima Fish Has Over 2,500 Times the Legal Limit of Radiation

It is unclear how extensively the radiation has been spread by other fish throughout the ocean’s ecosystem.  

The image above shows a fish, dubbed “Mike the Murasai,” that was caught near the Fukukshima Daiichi main reactor in Japan. The fish has 254,000 becquerels per kilogram, or 2,540 times the limit of radiation allowed for seafood. 


It is unclear how extensively the radiation has been spread by other fish throughout the ocean’s ecosystem. But what is a bit surprising is that the physical appearance of the fish has not been altered. 

According to Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco), nets will be installed to keep other fish from migrating.
