The image above shows the "burn scar" left from the Doce fire that has devastated the area around Prescott, Arizona. This natural-color image, taken from the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite, shows charred areas in grey; untouched areas in green; areas with little vegetation are tan. The rust-colored band is where 335,000 gallons of retardant was dropped by aircraft to contain the fire. 

According to NASA, it is rare to see flame retardant residue from space.
